Capt. Larry Spencer Doyle U.S.N. (Ret.)
Captain LARRY SPENCER DOYLE, USN, Ret.

Captain LARRY SPENCER DOYLE, USN, Ret., of Nevada City, took his final flight on Sunday, June 29. He was 62. He was a gracious husband, father, grandfather and friend who was always willing and able to help.

Born in Hawthorne, Nevada, in 1946, Larry was the only son of Edmond and Ruth Doyle. Raised in Eureka, California, Larry was a member of the Eureka High Class of 1964 and a Humboldt State University graduate. While there, he was active in the Boy Scouts, theater, ran track, played banjo and rebuilt classic cars. Subsequently, he earned two graduate degrees.

Larry joined the Navy in 1967, graduated flight training, earned his wings of gold as a Naval Aviator, and was assigned as an instructor pilot in jet trainers. Larry met the love of his life, Judy, while stationed in Meridian, Mississippi and they were married in 1972. Larry was transferred to Lemoore, California where he flew the A-7E Corsair II for sixteen years, including a tour as Commanding Officer of VA-94, the Mighty Shrikes. Under his leadership, the squadron received honors as the best attack squadron in the Pacific Fleet. Larry later deployed to Saudi Arabia in support of Operations DESERT STORM/DESERT SHIELD. He retired from his military career after 27 years with 5300+ accident-free flight hours in eleven different aircraft. He earned the Legion of Merit, the Bronze Star, and Defense Meritorious Service Medal, among other awards and decorations.

After retiring from the Navy and moving to Nevada County in 1994, Larry continued to share his love of flying by managing and instructing student pilots at the Beale Air Force Base Aero Club. Hundreds of students were inspired and educated under his capable and friendly tutelage.

While a gifted and impassioned pilot, Larry’s loves also included the mountains, history, sailing, photography, wood-working and tinkering with just about anything mechanical. Larry helped build a cabin at Diamond Lake, Oregon, at the age of 10, rebuilt a competitive sail boat, and renovated a hundred-year old farm house in Lemoore. A loving father, he imparted his passions of working with his hands, sailing, flying, and the outdoors to his sons.

Larry will be remembered for graciously lending a hand, a tool, or his time to any and all. He was a deeply loved husband, father, grandfather, and friend. His ready smile and sound counsel will be missed.

He is survived and loved by his wife of 36 years, Judy, son and daughter-in-law Roger and Kerry, son and daughter-in-law Matthew and Kara, son, Joseph, granddaughters Abby and Grace, and sister Carolyn.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Sierra Presbyterian Church “Stove Fund” or your favorite charity.

Jacqueline Buckley
Jacqueline Buckley

On July 19, 2008, our beloved sister, Jacqueline Marie Buckley, left us to be with the Lord. She fought long and hard to survive to an old age. Just short of her 57th birthday, she was called home. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, July 28, at Parkway Funeral Service, 2330 Tyler Parkway, Bismarck. Burial will be in the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, Mandan.

There will be no visitation, as cremation has taken place.

Jacqueline was born in Bismarck, in 1951, and raised in Strasburg. She was widowed twice. She was united in marriage to Don Buckley, a wonderful man, with whom she helped raise his children. Don was taken after a rewarding marriage of 11 years. She then married Philip (Red) Buckley and was blessed with nine years of blissful marriage until Red passed away. Jacqueline served 12 years in the U.S. Army as a mental health specialist. She was a veteran of the first Gulf War.

Jacqueline was a loving, nurturing spirit who returned to Bismarck in 2003 to help care for her mother (and best friend), Martha. She often said she didn't know what she wanted to be when she grew up; she tried out many options while going back to college to explore nursing, nutrition and occupational therapy while working as a care-giver. She was gracious, giving, observant and insightful. She had a quick, witty sense of humor. Jackie could be as tough as a piece of steel and soft as melted butter.

Jackie enjoyed many hobbies including sewing, crafting, creating jewelry, cooking, playing cards, shopping, quilting, reading and woodworking. She was a wonderful cook and could figure out how to fix almost anything.

She loved life and sought to find the beauty in everything and the good in everyone she met. She endured with dignity her journey through the pain of her illness. She was a warrior.

Grateful to have shared her life are her step-children, her parents, her family and her vast network of loving friends.

Obituary

It is with our greatest sorrow that we must share the news of the untimely passing of our beloved son Craig Alan Bowyer. He spent his life from 19 years old serving in the Navy, first in the Reserves in 1986, and then transferring to active duty with the Seabees in 1989. His job involved to a large part the maintenance of large vehicles and equipment. He was based in Gulfport, Mississippi; his other deployments were in California, Virginia, Okinawa, Andros and Puerto Rico. In 1990 he served in the Gulf War, followed by Iraq in 2006. He loved computers and collecting guns and rifles for target practice He spent most of his adult life serving his country with great pride, courage and commitment, and was only two weeks away from retiring from the Navy.

He is survived by his parents, Everett and Doris Bowyer, his brother Scott along with his wife Ruby and sons Bobby and Chris. We love and miss him unbelievably; he was much too young to leave us this soon.

There will be a Memorial Service in his honor on Sunday July 27th at 2:00 PM at Shikany's Bonita Funeral home at 28300 Tamiami Trail in Bonita Springs followed by a reception in the Clubhouse at the Villages of Bonita.

In lieu of flowers memorials are suggested to the American Humane Society 63 Inverness Dr. E., Englewood, CO 80112 or online at:

A Mother's Poem, by Doris

Time seems so endless,

a house built of cards,

And then it comes crashing

and breaks up in shards.

One takes it for granted,

as we did our son,

And then he was taken,

at just forty-one.

My Craig, my love and

my life was he,

There's a hole in my chest

where my heart used to be.

I loved you so much,

with all of my soul,

My pain is so great

it swallows me whole.

My tears will not end,

I wish you knew this,

I'd give up my life

for one very last kiss.

Love and miss you forever

Mom and Dad
